Plan Details

Janmashtami, also known as Krishna Janmashtami or Gokulashtami, is a major Hindu festival in India and celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna, the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. It falls on the eighth day of the Bhadrapada month or Ashtami as per Hindu lunar calendar.

Krishna is the god of love, tenderness and compassion. Hindu mythology portrays him as a gentle lover and a universal supreme-being. Lord Vishnu took incarnation as Lord Krishna to kill the demon king Kansa. In the Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna says that He will take avataras as and when needed, in order to protect sadhus, to destroy the wicked and to establish dharma.

The assembly is based on highlighting the significance of Janmashtami festival. Through an interesting drama- ‘Joy and Fervour at Vrindavan’ the students would know how the festival is celebrated across the country and an interesting story related to the birth of Lord Krishna. The students would also enjoy dance performances especially the Raas Leela by Krishna and his Gopis in Vrindavan. The assembly also conveys a lesson to learn from the victory of good over evil.

This plan can be used by schools of any country. The schools can conduct it for a grade / few grades/ all the grades from Class 1 to 10.

The plan has a main manual illustrating the flow of the event along with the description of the scripts/ performances/ activities in detail and also includes all the necessary resources for the assembly. Activities involving videos, PPTs are not taken for this assembly as a projector facility may not be available in many school grounds.
