Pluto Demoted Day (24 August)
Plan Details
Pluto, once the ninth planet, was downgraded to a mere a dwarf planet in 2006. Thereafter the solar system has, officially, only eight planets.
On August 24, 2006, the International Astronomical Union officially downgraded Pluto's status to ‘dwarf planet’ and declared the day as Pluto Demoted Day.
The assembly brings to light the reasons due to which planet Pluto is been downgraded to a dwarf planet. The sad journey of Pluto is woven in to a heart touching story. The character of Pluto is personified and we can see how Pluto expresses its emotions throughout the journey from being a happy planet to a sudden and shocking fall to the dwarf planet hood. Pluto, other planets, dwarf planets and many other exciting characters play an essential role in the drama.
The assembly gives a deep insight into Pluto’s feelings and shows different stages of emotions which it has gone through since its fall to dwarf planet hood. We see a glimpse of hope and urge from Pluto to take it back to the planet family. It talks about its happy days with the planets and we also see what reasons the astronomers give to demote it to a dwarf planet.
