Onam, a 10 day harvest festival orginated in Kerala, is celebrated in the beginning of the month of Chingam, the first month of the solar Malayalam calendar. The festival falls in August or September each year.

The beautiful and exciting festivities such as Vallam Kali (boat races), Pulikali (tiger dances), Pookkalam (flower arrangement), Onathappan (worship),Onam Kali, Tug of War, Thumbi Thullal (women's dance), Kummattikali (mask dance),Onathallu (martial arts), Onavillu (music), Kazhchakkula (plantain offerings), Onapottan (costumes), Atthachamayam (folk songs and dance) add joy and fervor to the festival.

The purpose of this assembly is to make the students learn the significance of Onam and the mythological legend associated to it. The students would know about the festivities and different ways in which each day of Onam is celebrated.

The drama based on the legend gives an important lesson that the good always wins and the evil loses. Humanity, charity, humility and politeness are important virtues to lead a prosperous life.
