Workshop Plan for World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (15 June)

holistic learning

Plan Details

The United Nations has designated June 15 as World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. The day aims to focus global attention on the problem of physical, emotional, and financial abuse of elders.

A huge number of elderly people experience some form of maltreatment at home, which leads to serious physical injuries and long-term psychological consequences.  Elderly people are humans and deserve the same dignity and respect as other age groups.

So, to understand their feelings, starting with grandparents at home and other senior citizens they come across, the students need to learn to respect them. To inculcate such feelings, students must be taught empathy.

Empathy is the ability to understand how someone will feel due to our actions and to understand the way a situation might make a person feel and hence respond with care. When a child learns to be empathetic, he/ she can learn self-control and be more watchful towards his/her own actions.
